Full marks for locals in Tennis 10s event

LARNE Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club's first ever Tennis 10's fun event held recently was a huge success.

Eighteen Under 8 and Under 9 players from the Larne, Ballymena and Belfast areas gathered together for the biggest event of its kind to be organised in the North Eastern region to date.

Local players such as Eva Conway, Amy Campbell, Anna Campbell and Elys Leetch-Armstrong competed as part of either Team Nadal or Team Federer on the red modified court to help their respective team collect points. After many hard-fought matches where the aim of the players was to reach seven points first, Team Federer came out victorious.

Locals Daisie Conway, Rosie Armstrong and Lewis Leetch-Armstrong were amongst players who competed on the orange court using the orange modified ball. Players on the orange court competed for either Team Murray or Team Roddick by achieving eleven points under the direction of Orange Court Co-ordinator and Club Coach, Adam Boyle. Team Murray managed to edge a narrow victory over Team Roddick.

Tennis 10s is part of the ITF 's 'Tennis... Play & Stay' campaign. It allows Under 10 players in the under 10, under 9 and under 8 age group categories to experience training and short matches using a red, orange or green modified ball on the appropriate modified court. Using slower balls on modified courts will help players to develop the most efficient technique and allow them to implement advanced tactics, that in most cases could not be performed using the yellow ball on the full court. A full calendar of Tennis 10s events is available on the Ulster Tennis website (www.ulstertennis.co.uk.)

Larne Bowling & Lawn Tennis Club Coach Adam Boyle will be holding an Easter Camp from April 2 to 6. Please see Club website (www.lbltc.co.uk) for details or contact Ruth Campbell on 07821629539.
