GAA: St John’s pupils enjoy Blitz

Year 4 and 5 pupils at St John’s PS enjoyed hurling and camogie mini-games with Derry GAA coach Aidan McLaughlin.

He was assisted by Derry Hurling captain Kevin Hinphey. The children received coaching tips and encouragement from the county star.

Year 6 and 7 enjoyed an afternoon of games in a hurling blitz organised by student teacher Ciara McWilliams. Ciara enlisted the help of her Eoghan Rua club mates to act as team mentors, encouraging and supporting the players. The school hurling team, recently crowned all-county champions, acted as match referees and officials, assisted by Kevin Hinphey (Derry Hurling captain) and Sean Leo McGoldrick (Eoghan Rua & Derry star).

Many thanks to all the volunteers, and particularly to Ciara for all her organisation. Seeing the children’s enthusiasm and smiling faces, it was obvious how much they all enjoyed the day.
