GAA: St Patrick’s Maghera and Derry set to storm Croke Park

First into action will be the schoolboys of St Patrick’s College in Maghera as they look to secure their second successive Hogan Cup victory and their sixth in total.

St Patrick’s had an impressive victory over Omagh CBS in last month’s MacRory Cup final and they will be hoping to add more silverware to the school’s trophy cabinet when they meet the Munster champions Pobalscoil Chorcra Dhuibhne from Kerry in Saturday’s decider.

Maghera turned in a brilliant performance in their semi-final to out point Dublin school Colaiste Eoin thanks in no small part to the efforts of Conor Convery, the corner forward kicking nine points in total, seven from play.

On Sunday, there will be a rematch of last weekend’s final round National League encounter between Mayo and Derry in the Division One semi-final.

Brian McIver’s charges have been one of the standout packages in the National League this year building on an opening round draw with Tyrone to defeat both Kerry and Dublin secure their place in the final four.

Having given many of his first choice side rest last weekend for the trip to Castlebar, McIver will have plenty of options ahead of Sunday’s game.

Derry may well have been defeated at the weekend but that result will have little impact on Sunday afternoon’s clash with Derry hoping to book a final date against either Cork or Dublin.
