Six schools from across the county had won their heats to get to this stage. Section A had Gaelscoil Strabane, St Peter’s and St John’s Moy and these teams played each other, Strabane and Moortown going through to knockout phase.

Section B pitched Our Lady of Lourdes Greencastle, St Laurence’s Fintona and St Mary’s, Cabragh, in another high calibre group, Greencastle and Fintona, finishing as group qualifiers.

After Cabragh had beaten Moy for the fifth spot, the semi-finals saw Gaelscoil Strabane defeat Fintona PS in a classic encounter, with Moortown taking on Greencastle to see which would play them in the title decider, with St.Peters edging it 2-1.

An incredible game of football ensued, both sides expending every ounce of energy in a huge effort. A pulsating match provided two goals. The match ebbed one way and then the other. Ultimately, Niamh and Anna Quinn, as goalscoring midfielders, shone for a highly skilled Moortown team and they inspired the Lough shore team to a 2-0 win.

Next up for them is a tilt at the Ulster Championship title in Co. Derry next month, everyone associated with Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Tyrone wishes them well in the quest.

But for now, Master John Quinn, Mrs Martina Devlin and the triumphant girls can bask in the glory of this tremendous accomplishment.
