Kildress take grade two league title

Kildress deservedly annexed the grade two U16 League title for 2020 when they emerged four point winners over a gallant Fintona side at Dunmoyle on Sunday afternoon.

The Pearses had a great opportunity to get their noses in front early on when they were awarded a penalty in the 6th minute but Oran Hughes dragged his effort wide of the target.

The windy conditions made it difficult for scoring with Kildress finally getting up and running from a long range Darragh Corey free.

A brace from Padraig Lynch and one each from Aaron McKernan and Tiarnan McNally increased the winners’ advantage to five but Fintona got right back into contention when their first score proved to be a Caolan Donnelly goal.

Lynch and Tom Gavin exchanged points before a late Ryan Gillen goal left wind assisted Kildress leading 1-7 to 1-2 at the short whistle

Gavin and Eugene Colton narrowed the gap to a single score on the restart but that was as good as it got for Fintona.

Gillen got a much needed Kildress point before McNally left five between the sides.

A Donnelly point was cancelled out by efforts from Shea Treacy and McNally as the winners moved six clear.

To their credit Fintona played to the final whistle and the reduced the deficit through Donnelly and Conan Hegarty but it was the Wolfe Tones’ day.
