Games screened live

Armagh’s next three National league games will all be screened live on Setanta 1, beginning with the clash with Meath in Navan on Saturday week.

The news will come as a disappointment to some fans who would favour the traditional Sunday afternoon slot which accommodates those who have Saturday jobs.

Club managers and players however have mostly welcomed the placing of county games on a Saturday which frees up Sunday’s for challenge games leading up to the new season which is scheduled to begin in early April.

Following Armagh’s game away to Meath the county will go out live on Saturday March 8th at home to Laois and again the following Saturday when they face Monaghan also at the Athletic Grounds.

Paul Grimley’s side will end their league campaign against Donegal.

Supporters will be disappointed to learn that Midfielder James Lavery could struggle to be back for the championship opener against Cavan at the Athletic Grounds in June. The Maghery player has sustained a neck injury which could rule him out for a sustained period. The news is better concerning attacking wing back Aaron Kernan who is expected to be seen in league action in the near future.

The Crossmaglen star had been out with an Achilles’ tendon problem sustained in Rangers Ulster Club clash last Autumn against Down outfit Kilcoo.

Supporters had been concerned considering that former Armagh player Ronan Clarke missed a major part of his playing career with a similar injury.

Armagh boss Paul Grimley has had several injuries to deal with since the start of the new campaign, most of the problems concern defenders and players who would be considered midfielders.

The county would be considered favourites for relegation should they lose in Navan next Saturday week a scenario that the Ulster Men have narrowly avoided in recent seasons.
