Gardiner signs for Larne

LARNE'S squad has been boosted by the arrival of a promising 19-year-old from Glentoran, a player of whom manager Paul Millar clearly has high hopes.

Inver boss Paul Millar says Philip Gardiner, a brother of Glens midfielder Grant, will give his side more options with his ability to play central midfield or wide on the left.

Next up for Larne is a Saturday match at home to Sport & Leisure Swifts in the Paddy Power Steel and Sons Cup last sixteen

"Although they beat us 2-1 in a pre-season game, I'd like to think we can make our way into the quarter-finals," Millar told the Times.

"This competition is wide open because many of the teams you'd have been wanting to avoid from the start have fallen by the wayside, although the likes of Harland and Wolff Welders and Linfield Swifts are among the favourites to go the whole way.

"I'm asking the players to go out and produce the same effort and determination they showed in the 1-0 defeat to Cliftonville and, if they give that and works their socks off for me, I'll be happy with whatever the result."
