Garvey come unstuck against Pembroke again

Lisnagarvey could only salvage a point out of their second round match against Pembroke last Saturday.

They were beaten for the second time in three weeks by Pembroke, this time by a single goal in a hotly contested 1-0 game.

The 21st minute brought the goal which was to decide the result. Garvey, after a short period of pressure, were caught on the break when Sothern found a vast amount of space and finished off a one on one with the Garvey keeper to score a very well-taken goal.

Four minutes later, Michael O’Connor shot over the cross bar when well placed and after another period of possession, Pembroke forced their first penalty corner but Garvey skipper Jonny Bell cleared the ball off the goal line with Tormey beaten.

Garvey were beginning to get into the game and in the 28th minute Timmy Cockram gave Greg Thompson a chance to equalise but his shot went past the post.

Immediately following the restart, Garvey forced their first set piece but Mark Ingram in the Pembroke goal brought off a great save from Timmy Cockram at his right post. A minute later, Andy Williamson had a chance created by Sean Murray and in the 39th minute, Murray found Williamson with a superb over head but the Garvey striker could only watch as his lobbed shot over the goalkeeper went inches past the right upright.

In the second half, Timmy Cockram saw his shot cleared off the goal-line as Garvey threw everything they had at their Dublin counterparts.

No goal was forthcoming and the defeat left Garvey three points off the Group A pace.
