Garvey ease past NICS in a one side league match

Lisnagarvey 17 NICS 0

The most one sided Premier League match ever played at Comber Road last Saturday saw Lisnagarvey defeat Civil Service by a competition record score of 17 goals to nil.

The struggling visitors firmly placed at the bottom of the league had nothing to offer either in defence or attack and Garvey were allowed to use the game as something of a practice run for their semi final Kirk Cup match against Instonians a day later.

After some intense pressure where chances were missed, it took Garvey 12 minutes to open their scoring account with a goal form Richard Arneill. This was followed by two goals in two minutes from Andy Williamson and Mark Raphael as the home side took complete control of the game.

Further goals from James Dowling [2]. Greg Thompson and Daniel Nelson took Garvey into a 7-0 lead at the interval and those watching began to have some sympathy for their opponents.

However, Garvey were allowed the freedom of the pitch for the last 35 minutes and added eight more goals to their tally. James Dowling completed a ‘double hat trick’ while Timmy Cockram [3], Daniel Nelson, Greg Thompson, Peter MacDonnell finished off a remarkable scoring feat against opposition which now shipped no less than 40 goals in their opening 5 games of the league programme.

The match gave neither side any satisfaction with the 17 goals for Garvey only good for boosting their goal average at the end of the campaign.
