Garvey get back into action in Irish Senior Cup

They are drawn to take on Ulster Premier League side Civil Service at Comber Road at 3pm on Saturday.

The game should be a straight forward one for a Garvey team which began their break with a telling win over Banbridge in the third round of the IHL.

Two weeks on, they will be glad to get back into action before playing their next EY League match against Cork Church of Ireland in Cork on Saturday 7th November.

Club Skipper Jonny Bell will be hoping to start the game as will a number of others carrying minor injuries and a place in the second round for the hosts should be guaranteed against a side who have only one of their opening three Ulster Premier League matches.

GARVEY SECONDS

Meanwhile, Lisnagarvey Seconds continued their winning streak with a hard fought win over Mossley Seconds at the Glade last Saturday.

Goals from Scott McCabe and Greg Thompson secured the points and keeps Philip Stirling’s team well in contention for retaining their Junior One title.

GARVEY THIRDS

The Thirds entertained Newry Seconds at Comber Road on Saturday and managed a 3-3 draw but only after a number of set-backs.

They found themselves two goals adrift after just 15 minutes. A long bouncing ball defeated the Garvey defence and the Newry forward only had to touch over the stranded Garvey keeper Frazer Carnduff.

Minutes later another long ball was deflected to the stick of a Newry player and he slotted it past the advancing keeper to leave the Thirds with a difficult task over the remaining part of the game.

Garvey did pull a goal back in the 23rd minute when Thirds captain Richard McConkey converted a penalty stroke and with five minutes left in the first half, Ryan Kee banged home Garvey’s third penalty corner to leave the score-line at 3-2 to the visitors.

Garvey were much the better side in the second half but poor finishing left them still trailing with 10 minutes remaining but thankfully Richard McConkey scored a well deserved equaliser from close range to grab a valuable point for the Thirds.
