Garvey reach first Irish Cup final in 11 years

Lisnagarvey's Men's Firsts came from three goals down to reach their first Irish Senior Cup final in 11 years last weekend, as they won via penalty strokes.

Garvey Captain Jonny Bell said: “It wasn’t an ideal start, you never want to concede first, never mind concede three. But fair play to how we gathered ourselves, we could’ve scored more, but three was enough.

“The boys kept their cool and slotted their penalty strokes and John Tormey saved one of theirs.

“We’re up against Monkstown now, who are a very good side, they’ve won a good bit of silverware in the last few years.

“They are a top team, but so are we. Confidence is high and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to win the cup.”

Garvey get back to league action tomorrow (Saturday) and are nine points clear with six matches remaining.

“If you gave us that at the start of the season we’d have taken it. In the second half of the season it is all to play for. There are no easy games, you have to be on top of your game.

“We are confident and momentum is with us. We have to keep our heads and see where we end up.”
