Garvey serve up a hockey feast

Lisnagarvey begin their build up to the inaugural season of the Irish Hockey League with a pre-season tournament at Comber Road this weekend.

With the first match in the I.H.L. on Saturday September 26 in Dublin against Pembroke Wanderers, Garvey are in need of some strong opposition to help their preparation.

With this in mind, Annadale, Banbridge and Pembroke are invited to Hillsborough on Saturday and Sunday.

Garvey will not play against their first opponents but instead play against Banbridge on Saturday at 4pm. This is after Annadale play Pembroke at 2pm.

On Sunday, Garvey take on Annadale at 10am while Banbridge complete the tournament by playing Pembroke at 12 noon. This serious round of matches should set Garvey up for the exciting I.H.L. ahead of them starting with Pembroke in Dublin on Saturday 26th at 4pm.

This is followed by their first home game against Monkstown at Comber Road on October 3 at 3pm and the eagerly awaited clash against Banbridge at Havelock Park on Saturday 10th October at 5pm.

The early I.H.L. series of matches is daunting and Garvey hope to have their full squad available. Captain, Jonny Bell, recovering from an injury, and recent signing Mark Gleghorne, hope to be playing while the other summer recruit, Neil Glassey is looking forward to his first serious game for his new club.

Coach, Errol Lutton has had his squad training for a number of weeks and is also looking forward to the challenge of the new I.H.L. format which provides top class opposition every week and will test his young players to the limit. Lisnagarvey Seconds begin their season with a Junior League Cup 1 match at Mossley. The league champions will again be captained by Philip Stirling and once again will be a force in both league and Irish Junior Cup.

The 3rds and 4ths do not have games this weekend in their respective Junior League Cup, but the 5ths travel to Instonians on Friday evening to play their Junior League Cup 4 game at 8.15pm.

The newly promoted 6ths now play in Junior League 5 and will start their season with a match against North Down 5ths in the Junior League Cup 5 competition on Saturday at Comber.
