The 28 year-old, who joined Garvey at the end of last season from Instonians, is part of the Green Machine squad who reached their first ever EuroHockey Championships semi-finals.

They were due to face world number two side Holland in the final four match yesterday (Thursday - pass-back 1.15pm) while England were due to take on Germany in the other semi-final.

It was thanks to a magnificent 2-2 draw against Belgium that Ireland made it through to the latter stages, qualifying from their pool in second spot behind Germany.

“To qualify from a pool with both of those sides in it is fantastic,” said Lisnagarvey coach Errol Lutton, who was delighted for his new signing.

“Paul’s a fantastic player with a lot of experience. He has been a top performer for Ireland and Instonians and is putting in some great performances in London this week.

“It shows that the lads have carried the momentum through from World League Three and I don’t see why they can’t go even further.

“They’re now up against three of the world’s top teams but they have got results against them before.”
