Garvey Twos cruise past Cork after beating Bann to go top of Junior One

Garvey Seconds made the long trip to Cork last Saturday and comfortably defeated University College Cork 8-2 at the Mardyke in the first round of the Irish Junior Cup.

The team travelled down by car on Saturday morning but had little trouble getting into their stride early in the game.

Goals from skipper Phil Stirling (four), James Dowling (three) and Matthew Gleave gave the team a convincing win and a place in the second round.

Last week the Seconds took themselves to the top of Junior League One with a very decisive win over Banbridge Seconds.

John Gray opened the scoring after an interchange with Mark Raphael and the same player added goal number two with a solo effort after Banbridge had managed to net an equaliser just before half-time.

Further goals from Matthew Nelson following a penalty corner and a direct strike from James Dowling, again from a penalty corner gave the home side a well deserved 4-1 victory.

Things are looking good for the Seconds at the moment with a fine mixture of youth and maturity.

With the experience of captain Phil Stirling, John Gray, Ian Davidson and the recent introduction of former senior players Mark Raphael and Mark Robinson, the team has a lot of potential.
