Garvey’s match called off

Lisnagarvey did not have a fixture last weekend due to the Under 16/18 Girls Inter provincials being played at Comber Road and next Saturday sees their game against Annadale also postponed.

This time it is the Inter Varsities tournament taking place over the weekend which means the fixture is liable to be pushed towards the end of season.

Meanwhile, Garvey can look forward to the following week when they face Railway Union in the second round of the Irish Hockey League programme at Comber Road and the Irish Cup second round match against Corinthians the following Saturday 15th November.

Having gained a place in the semi final stage of the Kirk Cup, Garvey await the date for the double header Sunday coming up later in the month.

With no home matches possible last Saturday, Garvey Thirds and Fourths both played away from home with mixed results.

The Thirds recorded a fine league win over Instonians Seconds at Shaws Bridge.

The score was 2-0 with Garvey scoring a goal in each half through Graham Bittle and Jack Wilson.

This result takes the Thirds in a very good position in Junior 1.

After six matches they have 13 points and lie a very good second in the extremely competitive league.

Captain Richard McConkey has a good mixture of youth and experience in his team and they must be looking forward to the clash with Garvey Seconds on 15th November.

The Fourths travelled to Lough Moss to play Annadale Thirds and after a struggle lost by 2 goals to one.

The home side controlled much of the game and were good value for their 2-0 lead well into the second half.

David Bolton reduced the score for the Fourths to 2-1 but they could not force an equaliser in the time remaining.
