Gary and Peter on target but Bann are beaten

Banbridge Thirds lost out 5-2 to Junior Two league leaders Instonians Seconds on Saturday in one of the few games to survive the weather.

Goals from Gary Dean and Peter McKnight at Shawbridge had twice put Bann ahead but Inst produced a devastating second half performance to secure the win.

Bann were looking to build on their excellent win against Annadale the previous weekend whilst Instonians were looking to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Bann couldn’t have got off to a better start when Peter McKnight took a quick free hit on the first attack of the game, eliminated a couple of defenders and slotted the ball under the advancing Instonians keeper.

Bann continued to press Instonians at the back and Dean was unlucky not to double their lead when well placed inside the circle.

Inst grew into the game and midway through the half, equalised through a short corner. The initial shot was well saved by Roleston but an Inst forward was on hand to knock in the rebound.

Whilst absorbing more pressure, Bann caught Inst on the break when a great long ball out of defence was picked up by Kennedy who advanced into the circle drawing out the Inst keeper before slipping the ball to Dean to tap in from close range.

However, Inst were a different side in the second half. Within minutes, they were level after some poor defending let an Inst man advance down the baseline before pulling the ball back to an attacker to knock it past Roleston.

Inst then made it 3-2 from a short corner before a well finished break away made it four.

Bann fought hard to get back into the game but Inst grabbed a final goal in the last few minutes.

Bann now have a weekend off due to a postponement.
