Gaston joins the Peacocks

FORMER Coleraine defender Paul Gaston has joined the coaching staff at Bertie Peacock Youths.

After leaving Beckett’s Soccer Academy, Paul was approached by Johnny Law, Chairman of Bertie Peacock Youths, and Paul was happy to come on board with the under 13 team.

Johnny told Times Sport: “Paul's input will be beneficial to us. It is a great coup for the ‘Little Ants’.”

Paul proved to be a lucky charm for the under 13’s, he was on the sidelines on Wednesday night when the team beat derby rivals Limavady 2-0.

Great display by Bertie’s under 10’s

Team One took on Eglinton Eagles at the weekend, while Team Two played Coleraine Colts.

Keen to bouce back from a defeat last week, Team One were firing on all cylinders, and they raced into an early lead through a Stuart Little goal. Further goals were added to make the half time score 5-1.

The second half was much the same, keeper Adam McClelland had little to do as Bertie’s boys continued to rattle in goals. Scorers were Little (2), Hanson (2), Quigley (2), Michell, O’Kane (2) and Tennant (2).

Team Two took on Coleraine Colts, but Bertie’s just couldn’t get going. At the other end the Colts battled for every ball.

The Colts took the lead but Calen Wan equalised soon after. Bertie’s took the lead in the second half as Caleb Wan grabbed his second of the game to ensure his side won the tie.

Bertie’s Under 10’s are still on the hunt for new players. Any players with 2001 birthdays are welcome to come along. The team will be making the step up to 11-a-side football next year. For details contact Robert on 07919524123

Under 12’s heap revenge on Glenavon

THE under 12’s made the trip to Lurgan on Saturday hoping to heap revenge on their Glenavon opponents, in the National League Knock-out competition.

On 18 minutes Bertie’s boys made the breakthrough. A good move saw Daniel Bradley and Andy Donnell finding Oran McAteer and he struck an unstoppable shot to put the Coleraine side ahead.

After the break Glenavon almost equalised when their captain’s venomous shot rebounded off the Peacocks woodwork and was cleared to safety.

As the game entered into the last 10 minutes Peacocks pushed for their second goal of the game. This eventually came when Daniel O’Kane picked the ball up about forty yards from goal, drove forward at the heart of Glenavon’s defence, before releasing Tiernan McDonald who fired home
