Gelderbloem and Taiaroa tops

BALLYMENA batted first at Middle Road and were in early trouble at 7 for 2, with A Kennedy and D Kennedy both falling to Gelderblum.

Aphale joined Williams and they added 60 before Martin sent Williams back. Theirs was the only stand worthy of mention, with a few batsmen getting a start but nobody going on to make a score. Aphale top scored with 39 and for Carrick, Ross Gelderbloem and Danny O’Shea took 3 for 29 and 3 for 24 as the Ballymena innings closed on 170 all out in the 49th over.

Carrick’s innings stuttered briefly at the start when Purse had Andrew Cowden caught with the score on 28, but got back on track after Mikey Taiaroa joined Michael Gilmour and the pair pushed the score along to 61.

When Aphale trapped Gilmour lbw for 39, Ross Gelderbloem joined Taiaroa and in the 44th over the pair cantered to the finish without further assistance or undue use of the whip.

With Gelderblum on 77 and Taiaroa on 42, Carrick reached the required 171 in the 44th over for the loss of two wickets to record a comfortable, but welcome win.
