The hockey camp has been organised in conjunction with the #obsessed campaign, which has seen Irish hockey stars raise funds towards this summer’s Olympics Games in Rio.

‘Obsessed,’ is a crowdfunding campaign launched by Hockey Ireland, with the aim of driving awareness of the team’s Olympic quest and the funding needed to fulfill that.

The Green Machine made history last October when they became the first Irish hockey team to qualify for the Olympics.

However, the #obsessed campaign was launched as there was a shortfall of €225,000 to complete the Green Machines’ programme and preparation for the Rio Olympics.

This campaign is your opportunity to support the Green Machine as the first team sport to represent Ireland at an Olympics in over 60 years.

The players have undertaken a series of initiatives to raise funds and to date they have raised almost 60% of their target with under a fortnight remaining.

With four Lisnagarvey Hockey Club stars in the latest Irish squad - Jonny Bell, Timmy Cockram, Mikie Watt and Paul Gleghorne - the club is running the hockey camp next month with the aim of adding to the #obsessed fund.

Another unique way the local clun has helped the campaign was through 1st XI manager Dean Beckett.

Dean recently celebrated his 50th birthday and asked for donations to the Irish Men’s Hockey Obsessed crowdfunding campaign instead of presents and raised €750.
