Giants’ medal blitz at NI wrestling contest

On Saturday the 29th April more than 20 competitors under the banner of Ashcroft Vale Tudo mixed martial arts competed at the Northern Ireland wrestling championships.

Causeway Giants, under the management of Ashcroft Vale Tudo, excelled and lifted a staggering array of medals and not least five Northern Ireland titles.

The titles went to Alexander Henry, Chris McCook, Ryan McIlwee, Matt Watterson, Norman Parke and Kurtis Ashcroft.

To enhance this the Giants also lifted a further seven silver and four bronze medals, by far the most successful club of the day and not bad for a competition which was international and attracted competitors from all over Great Britain and Europe.

The Giants currently train out of the AVT/MMA and are very busy at their training base in Benvarden every Wednesday and Friday night.

To supplement their training they also have a Saturday morning session in Ballmoney and a Monday evening class at the McAllister hall in Ballycastle.

The Ballycastle branch is working well and officials can expect to see a very competitive team for the mixed martial arts and wrestling come out of there.

Presently there are plans to introduce the Saturday morning class of Judo back into Ballycastle, with Mark Harris playing a coaching role.

To conclude it is great to see the North Antrim Area achieve so much at this event and club chiefs would like to thank Moyle Council for their strong support and helping the club with the necessary equipment to improve their game.

Ballymoney members will now be travelling up a bit more to Ballycastle to avail of the new Olympic mat .
