Girl Power as Shenna gets Ulster call-up and Freida wins the Cup

Banbridge CC’s junior prospect Shenna McKiverigan returned to the podium in the National Track Championships in Dublin last month, not once but on three occasions.

Having interrupted her training programme to concentrate on school exams, Shenna secured a silver medal triple in the Girls U16 category for 500m TT, Sprint Race and Scratch Race.

This success was followed up by selection for the Ulster track squad which will compete in the Sainsbury School Games in Manchester next month.

Time trial specialist Kevin Wilson proved unbeatable once again in last Wednesday’s 20 mile John Maxwell Cup time trial held on the tough Castlewellan Road course.

In a smaller than normal field of 13 riders Kevin, on 48.40, had more than four and a half minutes to spare over second placed Ewan Anderson (53.16).

Unfortunately for Kevin, the Maxwell Cup is awarded to the best handicap time and on this occasion a fantastic ride by Freida Brown (55.36) was good enough to lift the Cup for the first time with Kevin having to be content with second.

Freida is certainly benefitting from a strict training regime as evident from steadily improving performances in both time trials and road races.

Results (actual times):

Kevin Wilson 48.40

Ewan Anderson 53.16
