Glademen cling on to survival hopes

That long-awaited first first league win of the campaign came courtesy of an Andy Coulter double and a strike from Neal Glassey.

Then, on Friday, they made the trip to Antrim for what could have proved the deciding fixture and a win for either side could have seen the other relegated. However, the saga continues for at least another week as the two sides could not be separated. At half-time Mossley looked to be staring relegation in the face as they trailed 3-1 but a splendid fight-back saw them finish the game level at 3-3.

Goals on the night from Glassey, Mark Lee and Ross McIvor means the Glademen still have a chance to overhaul Antrim who have one fixture remaining.

Mossley have two matches left against newly-crowned champions Banbridge and Kilkeel.

The club’s Seconds crashed out of the Cup with a heavy defeat 5-0 away to Cookstown, while the Thirds had another great result defeating Antrim Seconds 5-2 in the Cup on a wet and cold Friday night.

Mossley started brightly and it didn’t take them long to take the lead, with Phil McMorris scoring from the edge of the circle. McMorris netted his second goal shortly after with another splendid effort. Antrim pulled one back but just before half-time Niall McGoldrick made it three.

Antrim netted another but McMorris fired in two more to see them safely into the next round.

Mossley Fourths were beaten 1-0 by Antrim despite having the majority of possession and a succession of short corners.

Mossley 5ths confirmed their place in Junior League Four next season with a 3-2 win over Civil Service at The Glade. Mossley played well in the first half and were 2-0 up at half-time with goals from Ricky Lee and Will Aston.

NICS scored an early second-half strike but Mossley hit back through Gerry Hamill. NICS scored again to set up a tense finish but Mossley held on.

The Sixths progressed to the second round of the Minor Cup with a comprehensive 4-0 home victory over their South Antrim counterparts. Man of the Match David Murray netted his first for the club, while Gerry Hamill and Ricky Lee (two) also chipped in with goals.
