Glademen lose out to Premier leaders

Mossley Men’s Firsts went down 3-1 at the hands of Premier League leaders Banbridge on Saturday.

The visitors controlled much of the possession calling Ben McMillan into action in the Mossley goal on a number of occasions. On 17 minutes Banbridge took the lead through Peter Brown but Jordan Robinson levelled with a close-range effort.

Colin McLean came close in the second half but Banbridge regained their one-goal lead on 41 minutes with a deflected shot leaving the home keeper with little chance. With 53 minutes gone, Banbridge extended their advantage to 3-1 with a converted penalty corner.

Meanwhile, Firsts continued their Kirk Cup campaign in midweek, traveling to Hillsborough to face Lisnagarvey.

The home side enjoyed much of the possession but Mossley looked threatening on the counter-attack throughout. The match finished 5-1 to the home side with Neal Glassey netting for Mossley.

Mossley were set to travel to Shaw’s Bridge on Tuesday evening to face Instonians in their penultimate Kirk Cup group match.

Club round-up

The Seconds lost 2-0 at ‘Garvey on Saturday in Junior 1 while the Thirds defeated Queen’s 5-3 at home. The goals came courtesy of Jason Hill (three) Josh Tyrrell and Mark Lee.

The Fourths took on South Antrim at Friends’ School, Lisburn, with the match finishing 4-1 to the home side. Jordan McCrea scored the Mossley goal.

The Fifths played Portadown at Edenvilla on Friday night. Portadown won a close match 2-1. Paul Turner netted for Mossley.
