Glassey and Robinson help lift Mossley men off bottom spot

Doubles from Neal Glassey and Jordan Robinson secured a vital win for the Newtownabbey side, lifting them off the foot of table.

With the stakes high for both sides, the game began in a nervy fashion with neither team taking grasp of the match.

But Mossley soon settled and caused the Service defence trouble before landing the the opener on 15 minutes. Ireland international Glassey provided a close-range finish after Phil Hamill stole the ball from a Service defender and lured the keeper before slipping it to Glassey.

Service won a couple of penalty corners but the threat was snubbed out with excellent defending and goalkeeping by Ben McMillan.

With the next goal vital for both sides, Mossley began to impose themselves and their pressure was rewarded when they won a penalty corner. And it was that man Glassey who was on the mark again, settling everyone’s nerves as he doubled Mossley’s lead.

With their tails up, the Glademen opened the match up and soon extended their lead with a reverse-strike from Robinson.

In the closing minutes a David Glenney through-ball found Robinson in space and he made no mistake in a one-on-one to net his second and Mossley’s fourth of the match.

Final score: Mossley 4-0 NICS.

Elsewhere, the Seconds fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Cookstown. Goals from Matt Anderson and Mark Lee helped the Fourths secure a 2-0 win against Portrush which keeps then in the chase for promotion. The Fifths lost 5-1 to Annadale on Friday, with John Alcorn netting the consolation goal.
