Glebe boss raring to go

GLEBE Rangers will hit this season's Championship 1 "like a banshee wailing", boss Gareth Scott has said.

This campaign will be Scott’s first entire season as manager of the club after he replaced Derek Donaghy at the turn of the year.

Now he is determined to build on Glebe’s great escape last time around, and has set his sights on finishing towards the opposite end of the table come May.

Asked how pre-season preparations have been going, Scott said:

“Everything has been fantastic to be honest.

“Everyone has exceeded all our expectations.”

Glebe is awash with new faces going into the new season with nine players recruited.

That combined with what Scott described as “a first class team of coaches” has everyone at the Glebe itching to get the season under way.

“We’ve put an excellent plan together to prepare the boys for the rigors of first team football and reserve football,” said Scott.

“The boys all deserve absolute credit for the way they have applied themselves.

“As well as that they knew exactly what they had to do and have given themselves every opportunity to succeed in this incoming season.

“The players aren’t stupid. They know how much effort they have to put in and what can be achieved from putting that effort in.

“They have been excellent.”

Scott said the addition of the new members at the club had been a “seamless” transition.

“Whenever any player comes to Glebe Rangers he is going to be treated very well and is going to be made feel like a member of the family as soon as they walk through the door,” he said.

Scott added: “Outsiders were perhaps surprised by Glebe Rangers last season but we are a Championship club on merit and we are getting stronger all the time.

“We have shown we are more than worthy of our place in the Championship.

“These are very exciting times to be involved with Glebe Rangers.”

Asked if he thought a top six finish was an achievable target this year, Scott replied:

“Yes, I believe it is.

“We have in-house targets we want to achieve and we want to finish as high up the table as we can.

“It really is one situation at a time. But come Saturday we’ll be coming out like a banshee wailing and we are going to give every team we play a hell of a game.”

Glebe rounded off their pre-season with a 3-2 victory over Raceview on Saturday thanks to goals from Craig McAllister, Trevor Parkhill and new skipper Adam McCart.

Glebe welcome Ballinamallard United to the Riada Stadium this Saturday. The match gets under way from 3pm.
