Bangor 1 v 2 Glebe Rangers

GLEBE Rangers players dug in during Saturday’s trip to Bangor and were rewarded with all three points against the Seasiders thanks to goals from ice-cool Trevor Parkhill and Ryan Tannahill who poked home the winner.

The win was manager Gareth Scott’s first since he has been at the club following two credible draws in his previous three matches in charge.

Last week Scott said he felt a win was just around the corner following those impressive performances and his intuition proved correct with Glebe notching up just their third league win of the season putting them level on points with Coagh and six above basement club Armagh City.

Glebe went ahead due to a belting 30 yard free-kick by Parkhill. Colin White levelled for the home side before another fine effort by Tannahill from outside the box sealed the points for Rangers.

When it was put to him that management appeared to be an easy enough job, Scott laughed, replying:

“It is certainly easier when you have a group of players who are hungry to improve.

“You can’t fault their work rate, enthusiasm and desire to do well and compete.

“We are improving gradually and it is important we keep it going. Little details won the match for us on Saturday.

“All the preparation was done last week ahead of another obstacle we had to overcome. We were very, very focused. We knew that we were coming close to a win.

“We probably deserved something from the first game at Limavady, got a well-earned draw against Loughgall and probably should have got more against Larne. I thought the three points would be just around the corner.

“We approached the game with a real aggressive energy and were well worth the win. Bangor came back at us late on and threw everything but the kitchen sink at us but we kept our discipline.

“Stuart Moore led the line and showed everything it takes to be a Glebe Rangers player in terms of leadership.”

As well as praising his squad, Scott also paid tribute to the efforts of the club’s coaching staff.

“Everyone is enjoying their football,” he said. “We can give them the tools but it is up the players to do it when it matters and to a man they are doing it.”

Scott was also delighted with the large away following at Saturday’s match and called for the fans to come out in force again for the remaining games of the season.

Glebe face two tricky games this week - tonight against Ballinamallard and Saturday’s clash with Ards - both at the Riada Stadium.

Scott said he is hoping for big performances from his side as they aim to continue their good form.

Tonight’s game starts at 8pm while Saturday’s match gets under way from 3pm.
