Glebe forced to settle for a point

GLEBE Rangers took on Tobermore United at Fortwilliam Park on Saturday and in the end a draw was probably a fair outcome but Glebe boss Gareth Scott will probably be less pleased than his Tobermore counterpart Johnny Law as the Ballymoney men did shade the possession and chances over the 90 minutes.

Tobermore’s Sammy Foster was the busier of the two keepers in a drab first 45 minutes and he did exceptionally well to keep out Adam McCart’s bullet header on 15 minutes.

Neil Lamont and Hugo Batista both had half chances for Tobermore but their efforts didn’t cause Matt McGraw any trouble in the visitor’s goals.

Mark Anderson gave Rangers the lead 20 minutes into the second half when he pounced on a defensive mistake inside Tobermore’s penalty box giving Foster no chance with a crisp finish.

David McClements, just back from four weeks out through injury, replaced the tiring Batista and the game seemed to swing in Tobermore’s favour with the tricky wingers clever runs and crosses causing all sorts of concern in the visitors defence.

Sean Henneghan almost levelled things with a well struck 25 yard free kick on 75 minutes but McGraw was equal to it and made a great save.

Five minutes later the same two players were involved in a similar situation and again McGraw frustrated Henneghan with another good save but the big keeper could only punch the ball from the resulting corner and it fell kindly to Gary Donaldson who smashed it back through a ruck of players to square things up.

Both sides had chances to take all three points in the final minutes with John Neil and Lamont both going for the same back post ball which allowed it to run wide and at the other end Tommy Elder will think he should have done better when he headed over Foster’s crossbar from close range.
