Glebe Rangers record fine 1-0 victory at Tillysburn Park

Manager Gary Scott was well pleased with the result and his opposition conceded it was a game that the visitors’ fully deserbed to win.

Indeed, on the Harland and Wolff website the writer said:

“Different day, same rubbish. That is the only way to describe what was on offer at Tillysburn Park in this league fixture.

“In what has been by our own standards a poor start to the season the gloom continues and truth to tell we got out of this game exactly what we deserved - absolutely nothing.”

Glebe struck in the seventh minute when Anderson put the team again with a cracking 30 yard drive which gave the goalkeeper little chance.

Again, the contributor to the Harland and Wolff website was damning in their comments when they stated: “The home team were like a bunch of headless chickens with no apparent ideas at all in the art of passing, shooting or indeed trying to string two balls together.

“It is extremely difficult for all true Welders supporters to watch this type of performance and even more difficult for them to try and understand how a talented bunch of players can produce such inept showings as they have been over the past few weeks.

“We basically have all of last year’s squad with us and it could be argued that the new faces coming in have strenghened the panel and still we are turning in performances that are more like a Saturday morning kick about in the local park.”

Glebe will have little sympathy for their opposition with manager Scott intent only on galvanising his own squad.

As the game approached half time the Welders had a half chance to draw level when Cahoon headed narrowly over the bar.

The restart saw much more of the same with neither keeper seeing much of the ball and Glebe looking like the team most likely to add to their scorline.

Attacking ideas from the home team were non-existent and even the luxury of two passes was rarely seen. Brown was the only player who gave any indication that he could pose a threat to the visiting defence and he had a couple of great runs which deserved a better finish, only to see the final effort either saved or well defended by the resolute Glebe backline.

With ten minutes remaining the Welders showed a little bit of life and urgency but it was too little too late as the game petered out with a well deserved victory for the men from Ballymoney.

This Saturday, Scott is facing a difficult game in the Steel and Sons Cup with Killyleagh the opposition.
