Glen Rovers open their new pitch with a win

Glen Rovers Armoy 2-19 Glenravel 0-13ON an historic evening last Thursday Glen Rovers Armoy took to their new £400,000+ facilities to play their first game there.

St Oclans Parish Priest Fr Neillis blessed the pitch and also ceremonaly threw the ball in at the start of the game.

Glen Rovers were clearly outplayed in the early exchanges with Glenravel taking the lead after three minutes and adding after five to make the score two points to nil.

However, they responed well and Lee Forsythe had the honour to score the first point for Glen Rovers on their new pitch to cut the deficit to one.

The next 20 minutes was dominated by Glenravel and after 25 minutes play, they led by nine points to four.

Glen Rovers railled in the final five minutes of the half to rattle off three unanswered points to cut the deficit to two before Glenravel finished the half pointing a long range free.

Half time Glen Rovers 0-7 Glenravel 0-10.

The half time talk from stand in manager Frankie McBride must have done the trick as within three minutes of the restart John Cassley pounced on a loose ball around the goalmouth to poke home a goal.

After that points came from Eoin Kinney before David McToal scored a wonderfull goal from 14 yards out into the top corner of the net. Points then flowed from Lee Forsythe (3) Com Hunter, John Dillon and Martin McErlain to ease Glen Rovers into a well derserved lead before Glen ravel could muster their first score of only 3 in the second half. An unfortunate incident seen Eoin Kinney red carded after this along with his Glenravel counterpart but Armoy added points from Terence Kinney, Lee Forsythe, Gerald McFetridge and finally Paul McErlain

All in all, a well deserved win for Glen Rovers Armoy in their first match on the new pitch.

This game completed their 14 games in division three where they finished in 3rd place.
