Glencloy now 'Inn' front in title race

GLENCLOY Inn are the new leaders at the summit of the Inbev Ttown and Country Pool League as the competition reaches its halfway stage this week.

The Carnlough team took full advantage of the fact that leaders McAuley's were not in action this week with a 5-0 hammering of Heffrons at home, wins on the night coming from Connor McCollum, Paul Bates, Michael Abram, and Stevie Morgan.

James Atcheson secured the five points for Glencloy in the final game with a nervy win over Jim Glennon which went the three-frame distance.

The big game of the night, however, was taking place in Cushendall where title contenders Randalstown Veterans and Lurig A battled it out for points to keep pressure on the leading Carnlough teams.

Veteran Hans Kuijten got the visitors off to a strong start with a 2-1 win over Paddy McAteer, Lurig then levelled the match courtesy of Michael Birt's 2-0 win over Nigel Murray.

The Veterans pushed on and took the lead with Frankie Brammeld getting the better of John

McKillop in a 2-0 victory and the Randalstown men wrapped up victory with James Talbot getting a 2-0 win over Bengi Birt.

The Veterans looked good to take four points in the final game of the night, with Jason Beggs taking the first frame against Declan Birt, however nerves seemed to take over in the second frame as Beggs had no fewer than three attempts to pot his last black. Declan, however, had no such trouble and took full advantage and took the final two games to rescue a second point for Lurig.

Elsewhere, Halfway B had a magnificent 5-0 win over BUSC at home wins for James Liddie, Jonny Donnell, Brian Fleck, Brendan Feeney, Raymond Mark taking them ever closer to their clubmates Halfway A who continued their run of poor form at the hands of Greenhills.

Wins for Halfway players Seamus Rowan and Donal O'Boyle and Greenhills player Micheal McAuley and JP Kane saw the match decided in the final game with Paul Scullion making light work of Barry Hamill to see the Glenravel team take victory.

At the bottom half of the table, Social Chronics played host to Glencloy Elite with the young Carnlough team coming away with a fantastic 4-1 win to take them above the Ballymena team.
