Glenside and Legends drop points

THE top of the table is becoming much closer with the league leaders, Glenside dropping two points against bottom side Colours Ballymacash B, in the Taylor’s Ice Cream Sponsors Lisburn & District Snooker League, with the match finishing 2-2.

Out of sorts Captain of the Glenside Colin Carlisle had an unexpected defeat losing 2-1 against Ryan McCauchran which put the Colours B team 1 nil up. Another surprising upset saw Ernie Cullen lose his match 2-1 against the young potter Dermot Donovan which shocked the Glenside team being 2-0 down at the half way stage in the match and also being the home team. However, the Glenside fought back with Jason Loyal winning his game 2-0 against Colour Ballymacash B captain Jim McGrillen to pull the Glenside back to only one game behind with one to play. Charlie was up next for the Glenside and he made no mistakes in his match as he defeated Mick Straw 2-0 to salvage a disappointing draw for the Glenside and a terrific two points away from home for Colours Ballymacash B.

The Legends were also held to a 2-2 draw last night by the Coach Outlaws which suited the Glenside. Paul Lenfesty was in excellent form as usual as he strolled to a 2-0 win over Adam Spence with Paul knocking in a 47 beak in the process. Chriss Lenfesty looked out of form as he was defeated 2-1 by the improving Kyle Lavery which brought the Outlaws back in to the match with it poised at 1-1. The Legends then went 2-1 behind when Davy Payne was defeated 2-0 by the Outlaws’ new signing James Tearle who showed his qualities for the new team. Last up for the Legends was Mark MaGee who needed to win to salvage a draw and that’s exactly what he did as he destroyed the Young Chris Ferguson 2-0 to earn a draw for the team and keep the title credentials alive.

Next up were Colours Ballymacash A who entertained the Terminaters from Hillsborough and it was all Colours who were doing the terminating as they destroyed the visitors 4-0 which boosted their position in the table slighty. Ian Stevenson was the man of the night after he played exceptional snooker on his way to defeating Darren Morgan, Ian had breaks of 29 and 31 to ensure he kept the dangerous dares at bay. Colin Spence then made it 2-0 to the home side as he beat Gary Townsley 2-0 in a close match. Robert Stevenson then made it 3-0 to Colours A with a 2-0 win over John Wright. Last up was Andrew Clarke who also had a 2-0 win this time it was against the Terminater’s Captain Alex McWiliams which gave the Colours A team a very well deserved 4-0 win and sent the Terminaters back to Hillsborough with another whitewash in the pockets.

The Grinders were host to the Legion Hotshot from Lisburn and the home side won the match 3-1 to keep themselves in touch with the top teams in the table. Franky Soye got the team off to a good start with a 2-1 win over the tricky Mark Doyle. Brian Murray then made it 2-0 with a 2-0 win over Harry Gilliland. Gerry McKeown was defeated 2-1 in a close game with Michael Ferguson which would be the only point the legion would win this week. Jerome Lenfesty then secured the win with a 2-0 win over Egg head Thomas Heasly and send the Grinders to a great 3-1 victory over the Legion Hotshots.

Last up, the Coach Knights are still the only undefeated team left in the league up against the defending league champions the Highwaymen. The match ended up in a stalemate with both teams sharing the points ending up in a 2-2 draw. First up for the Knights was Tommy Taylor who was up against Gordon Boomer and it was the Highwayman who won this game with a nice 53 break on his way to a 2-0 win over the talented Tommy Taylor. The Knights then went 2-0 down after their captain John McCrea was beat 2-0 by Daryl McFaul as things were looking glum for the Knights and a possible first defeat loomed. The Knights dug deep and Davy Hall got the team back into the match with a 2-0 win over Highwaymen captain Colin Patterson which made it 2-1 to the Highwaymen with only one to play. The last game was between Damien McCambridge and Paul Benson and it was the Knights man who won the game 2-0 to end the match at 2-2 and keep their unbeaten record still intact and still have a realistic chance of winning the league. Who will be the first team to beat the Knights?
