Gmac eyes big finish

GRAEME McDowell is refusing to throw the towel in on his Race to Dubai dreams.

The US Open champion is almost 1million Euros behind leader Martin Kaymer, but he is still holding on to his faint chances of overtaking the German.

"It's going to be difficult. Martin is a long way ahead of me and he’s playing extremely well and he’s playing everything as well. It’s a busy schedule and I just have to try and play as well as I can," said McDowell.

“It’s been an amazing year but it is important to finish it off on a strong note.

“I am playing the next seven weeks with the first five of them counting towards the Race to Dubai. But it’s going to be tough to make up a million euro deficit on Martin.

“He has a chance to go to No 1 in the world and he is always a tough guy to beat. But I will be giving it a run and getting the head down and trying to finish the season really strong from here.

“Obviously I don’t wish any bad on him but I hope he goes easy on me. All I can hope for over the next few weeks is to get within striking distance of him heading into the last event in Dubai.”

If Gmac manages to catch Kaymer it would put the icing on the cake of a memorable year for the Portrush man.

“It’s been a very special, special year but I will enjoy my Christmas dinner more if I can give these seven week everything, especially the first five leading up to the Dubai World Championships," he said.

“If I can finish on a really positive note it will put a really nice shine on a big season for me."
