Goals galore as Scarva ease past Town Reserves

Banbridge Town Reserves 4

Scarva Rangers 6

WHEN Scarva Rangers play, goals are guaranteed.

Their four fixtures since the turn of the year have produced a total of 26 goals, with ten of them arriving in this goal bonanza at Havelock Park.

The final whistle signalled Scarva’s first league victory since October, but it was a victory that appeared at one stage to be slipping from the village side’s grasp.

The inspiration behind this vital win in Scarva’s quest to edge away from the relegation zone was Mark Bicker, who bagged a hat-trick and was involved in another two of his team’s goals.

He opened the scoring after exchanging passes with Rod Douglas and lashing the ball off the crossbar into the Banbridge Town Reserves’ net.

Douglas also played a part in Scarva’s second goal, eluding two home players in the build up to Bicker’s second goal of the game.

The afternoon just kept getting better and better for the visitors, with striker Alex Hammond hitting the target with a long range strike.

And when Bicker rifled home an exquisite Ryan Dodds cross before the interval to secure his hat-trick, Scarva seemed home and dry.

The home side scored before the half time whistle sounded but it appeared to be a consolation effort that would have little effect on the final result.

Then they hit the target twice more after the break and a lead that had once been a chasm was whittled away to the most uncomfortable of margins.

Complacency threatened to undermine Scarva’s blistering start to the game but the peril of their position finally dawned on them and there was once again a sense of urgency to their play.

Bicker carved the home defence apart to pave the way for his side’s fifth goal of the game, which was fired home by Alex Hammond.

Having fought back from four goals down, a resilient Banbridge Town Reserves side weren’t willing to throw in the towel and they reduced the deficit once again to a single goal.

But then they conceded a penalty for a foul on their chief tormentor, Mark Bicker, and Stephen Anderson continued his recent impressive penalty taking form with an unerring spot kick to round off the feast of goals and seal the three points.

Man of the Match – Mark Bicker. A display of breathtaking quality from the Rangers player.
