Goals galore in under 11 derby

THE start of the league saw two Coleraine teams going head to head.

Coleraine Colts Under 11’s met Coleraine Academy Under 11’s.

The Colts team started brightly and gave their all but were unfortunate to score an own-goal.

Coleraine Academy were physically stronger and used their strength well. Goals from Kevin O’Kane (3), Scott Weir (2), Ben White and Matthew Clarke helped them to victory.

Dylan Holmes hit the net for teh Colts and despite the 8-1 scoreline the Colts battled until the end.

Under 12s hit eight

The Under 12’s continued their good run with a fine win over Ballymoney in the National League on Saturday.

From the kick off the Bannsiders set the tone for the game, with some excellent free flowing passing football.

Lewis Mitchell opened the scoring with a fierce drive.

Stewart Moore grabbed Coleraine’s second goal, before Kenny Kane made it 3-0. Coleraine continued to apply the pressure and some good interchanges of passing between Sheldon Woods and Craig Pollock released Aaron Doherty who drove the ball home with typical flair to increase Coleraine's lead.

Kane grabbed his second and Coleraine’s fifth soon after. With half time approaching, Coleraine found the net for the sixth time, Sam Bradley on target.

Coleraine shuffled their pack at half time, Finlay Bacon and Adam Wallace were introduced. Goal number seven came from Stuart Moore after some good work from Aaron Doherty.

Ballymoney pulled a goal back with 15 minutes remaining when Coleraine failed to clear a ball in the box but Kenny Kane shot home from close range to score his hat trick and make the score 8-1.

Coleraine keeper Glen McMullan was then given the opportunity to play outfield with Keenan Buick taking the keepe’rs gloves and it was McMullan who was duly rewarded for his efforts when he netted Coleraine's ninth goal from six yards out.

Good start for under 12 community team

The new league started with a tie against Ballysally.

Coleraine made a good start with the midfield of Corey McKeary, Alan Dunn, Adam Mackey and Jack McKinney working hard to get service to the Coleraine front pairing of Connor Lundy and Andrew McLean.

Their commitment paid off when another cross from Adam Mackey was brilliantly met with a scissor kick by Connor Lundy who put the ball into the back of the Ballysally net to make it 1-0.

The Ballysally defence proved hard to break down, but the persistence of the Coleraine side paid off as Connor Lundy grabbed the second of the game.

Ballysally continued to battle and they did test Reid in the Coleraine goal on a number of occasions. At the other end Coleraine increased their lead to 3-0 when Mackey scored from a free kick.

As the game concluded Coleraine grabbed their fourth from a Mackey corner kick.

Man of the Match was awarded to both Adam Mackey and Jordon Pollock.

Coleraine travel to Tobermore this Saturday.

Defeat for Under-16’S

Coleraine Under-16’s started their North West & Coleraine District Youth League season with a home fixture against a travelling Magherafelt.

Coleraine knew that this would be a hard task against an older and well experienced squad in the Sky Blues U-17's.

It was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 18 minutes as the forward headed home from a corner.

A minute before the break Coleraine got their reward as Andrew Crawford opened up the opposition defence with an inch perfect ball for Matthew Kirkpatrick to coolly slot home.

Coleraine hoped to keep the momentum going into the second half but Magherafelt took the lead again in the 46th minute from another header.

The Sky Blues added three goals within the space of four minutes to take a 5-1 lead by the 52nd minute.

The U16's now look ahead to an away fixture to Ballycastle U16.
