GOLF: Big turnout comes to Prehen

The Sunday Society competition at City of Derry was played in near perfect conditions at the weekend.

John Hancock (17) scored 38 points to claim first place. Second after a break of tie finish was John Flynn (12) after he finished with 36 points and Damian King (14) who also scored 36 points was third.

The club’s Ulster Cup team have an impressive 6-1 win and progress to the next round.

Saturday’s Stableford competition was claimed after a BOT finish by eight handicapper Les Dickson after he scored 38 points.

Ernie Heywood (2) with 38 points was second and John Hamilton (7) with 37 points finished in third spot.

Mr Robin McClay’s Skippers Prize and Presentations will take place on Thursday March 31st.

Once again the Thursday Society will be supplying a subsidised buffet meal for those members attending. Cost to members for the meal is £5 with a £3 entry to the competition.

The following presentations will also take place on the night, Golfer of the Year, Ted Pope Trophy and the Joe Ramsey Trophy. GOY standings with one outing left (Ted Pope) is as follows 1 F Young 175 points; 2 N Kehoe 170 points and 3 E McCourt 162 points.

The Ted Pope Trophy takes place on Thursday and it’s £4 to entry and there will be five prizes on offer.

The St Patrick’s Day Scramble was won by Gary Leckey (11), Wyn Donnell (12) and David Flanagan (21) after they scored 55.1 points. Second were Cormac McKeone (4), Stephen Doherty (12) and Martin Doherty (16) who finished with 55.7 points.
