Golf: Career best display wins the Lombard cup for Brian Quinn at Killymoon

The Lombard Trophy was the big prize and Brian Quinn, off 13, carded a massive 46 points as he negotiated the course in what must surely have been a career best 73 blows.

Not far behind were Gerard McNally and Stewart Gillis who came in with 44 and 43 - exceptional rounds in their own right.

Stephen Hughes took the gross prize with 73 and the category prizes were collected by Eugene Devlin (42), Gerry Mallon (38), Patsy Hanratty (39) and Eoin Mulholland (38). Best senior was Kevin Teague (36).

Again fine scoring was achieved as Gerry Mallon secured Moutray Cup top spot with 64, just ahead of Bernard McCaughey who made it two runner-up finishes in as many weeks. A 68 by Gary McCabe took third and gross went to Eugene Donaghy with a 74.

Easter Monday Open saw Darren Reid came out victorious, posting 45 points. Martin Kelly was runner-up, Gavin Owen third and Rodney Hutchinson won Best Gross with a 5 over 75.

Alexander Cup a stroke event saw Oliver McVeigh take the honours with net 73 ahead of Darren Hampsey and Stephen Canavan who each had 65 and were separated on countback.

The ladies played for PGA Tankard. Kay Simpson won with 33 points, better second nine from Anne MacMahon. Front nine was won by Grainne McBride, 19, on last six from Kathy Shirlow, back nine by Anne Greaves, 19 points.
