Golf Club are to the fore in pool's First Division

Banbridge Golf Club 5

Imperial Inn 3

WITH results elsewhere going their way this victory puts the Golf Club two points clear at the top of the McLean’s bookmakers First Division for the first time in a long time.

The home side got off to the worst possible start as John McCahon gave the Imperial an early lead that spurred the Golf Club into action and they rattled off five frames on the trot through Johnny Ward, Kevin Smyth, Rory Leonard, John Brush and Neil Clydesdale.

This strong performance surely puts the Golf Club in pole position for the title.

Shepherds 3

Castle Bar 5

A severe dent was put in Shepherds’ fight for honours in the division as they suffered a rare home defeat at the hands of the Castle Bar.

Castle Tavern 2

Donacloney Legion 6

The Castle Tavern lost precious ground on the leaders with this emphatic home defeat at the hands of Donacloney Legion.

The Legion were in inspired form as they hit the ground running by taking the opening five frames through P Brooker, M Wiltshire, M Snoddy, C Morton and P Tinsley.

This result gives the Legion a slim chance of taking something out of this season.

Coach B 4

Hawthorn Rovers 4

This was definitely a match of two halves as the Hawthorn took the first three frames from K McKee, D Armstrong and G McAvoy.

K Quinn pulled one back for the Coach but the Hawthorn restored their three frame lead in the next through K Tumilty.

The pressure was on the home side but their tail was well up for it as J Sinclair, S Green and B Doherty were all winners and secured an unlikely point for the Coach.

Halfway House 6

Market Bar 2

A fantastic start from captain J Mulligan gave the Halfway an early lead.

He was quickly followed up by B Taggart in the next. A Moore pulled a frame back in the third but the Hhalfway made sure they would be two frames up going into the second half when D McAlinden won his game.

M Jardine pulled the game back to just one frame but the Halfway finished very strongly and won the final three frames through A McCartan, R Ferris and D Mulligan.

Anglers 5

Mulholland’s 3

A good result for the home side.

The Pool Committee and myself wish to pass on our deepest sympathy to Mr Tom McGrath and his family on the sudden death of his brother Joseph (Joe).

Joe will be sorely missed by not only his family members but also by the town of Banbridge as it is without doubt that he was one of our area’s great characters.

May he rest in peace. SEAMUS McGRATH
