Golf Club installs defibrillator for community

Bernard had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Fortunately, the hotel had a defibrillator on site and thanks to the immediate action of staff with CPR and defibrillator training, Bernard survived.

As a direct result of his experience Bernard decided to engage in a Professional Golfers’ Association-backed campaign supporting the placement of public-access defibrillators in golf clubs in the UK.

Ballycastle Golf Club is pleased to announce that it now has an on-site defibrillator for use in the community. Ballycastle Golf Club participated in a quiz or took part in a specially organised golf day to raise funds. Donations were also received on a “Just Giving” page. Signed memorabilia was also received from Darren Clarke, Justin Rose and Michael Hoey.

A training grant was received from Moyle District Council and funds were also received from the National Lottery. The defibrillator is situated at the external entrance to the men’s locker room on the ground floor. It can be accessed by a code which is available from the Professional’s Shop or from the Club Bar Staff. Alternatively if you ring 999, you will also be given access to the code.

To date about 20 Club Members are trained in CPR & the use of the Defibrillator and another training evening is planned for later in the year. The Golf Club is very proud of the fact that it is now able to offer this important facility for the whole community.
