GOLF: Faughan Valley men take on Fortwilliam GC in last four tie

This week Faughan Valley moves into the second week of the Club Irons competition, while the club singles knockout competition sponsored by Robert Quigley moves into the third round.

This weekend coming Faughan Valley will be hosting the JC Haliday Open Stableford Competition.

This Sunday team captain Paul Duffy and his Jimmy Bruen team are playing Fortwilliam Golf Club at Moyola in the semi-final of the Ulster Section.

And a reminder to all members that the time sheet for Captains Day is up and running and the tickets for the club presentation night are now on sale.

While last Thursday night seen the final of the Premier Travel Doubles Competition with the pairing of Michael Galbraith and Colin Robinson taking the title from Michael Kelly and Liam Doherty.

Last Sunday in the Stableford Competition the winner was 23 handicapper Michael Galbraith with 43 points and in second place with 41 points was 16 handicapper Gregory McGlinchey whilst the winner of third spot was 15 handicapper Joshua McGowan there were two winners in the sweep Gregory McGlinchey and Joshua McGowan.

Meanwhile the Tayto Northern Ireland Open, in partnership with Ulster Bank, gets underway with the Pro-Am at Galgorm tomorrow (Wednesday) before the 72-hole tournament starts on Thursday.

Now in its fourth year, the NI Open has become one of the standout events on the European Challenge Tour.

This year organisers are confident they can attract in excess of 40,000 spectators for what promises to be a week-long festival of golf.
