An impressive 50 plus pairs turned out hoping to gain one of the 32 places on offer in the Pairs Match Play Club Championship.

With the new 9/10 handicap allowance now in force for better ball competitions the scoring was of the highest order with Davy Wilson (10) and Dermott Harkin (16) taking the best Qualifiers accolade with an outstanding 48 points.

In second place after a 47 points break of tie was Declan Ryan (12) and Rob Ewing (19).

Foyle Golf Club Captains Mrs Monica Smith and Mr Emmet McNally will Drive-In to Office at 5.15pm this Friday followed by a 9 Hole Scramble with a shot gun start at 5.30pm for Ladies Gents and Juveniles following the golf light refreshments will be available followed by Prize Presentation.

The PFS Accountants Qualifying Singles (Top 64 Qualify for Match Play) competition takes centre stage today (Wednesday), Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tomorrow the Inner Wheel Charity open is down for decision, while the Family Dental Practice Club Foursomes Match Play Championship Draw is posted on notice board.

City of Derry’s Thursday Open Programme for 2016 kicked off last week and the first winner was Alastair Duncan (15) whose 41 points tally outpaced the field by some distance.

Connor McKnight took second place on 38 points and Fred Young was third.
