A day toremember for Angela at Irish Open

ANGELA Carroll from Lisburn will be seeing stars in a few weeks time after being selected to be an official Games Maker at the Olympic Games, but last Sunday she rubbed shoulders with Irish Open winner Jamie Donaldson.

Angela was lucky to get tickets to attend the final day of the competition and although not a golfer she found the whole occasion a fantastic experience.

“A friend had managed to get tickets so I decided to go along,” explained Angela. “I really enjoyed it. There was a fantastic atmosphere on the last day. We saw all the top golfers up close and Sunday was perhaps the best weather for the golfers which really helped.”

Getting a picture taken with the Welsh winner was an added bonus. “He was having some pictures taken with the trophy at the end of the tournament and there were not many people left so I just went up and congratulated him on his success and asked if it was okay to have a picture taken.

“The whole event was fantastic and all the effort put in by the organisors really paid off and they deserve all the praise they have been getting for putting on a great sporting event.”

Now Angela is planning her next big sporting trip and it will be something to remember.

“I put my name forward to be a Games Maker at the Olympics and did not expect to be chosen. Over 240,000 people applied so I was thrilled to hear I had won a place,” said Angela. “I have been over to London for training and to get my uniform. I am really looking forward to it. I can’t wait.”

She may be all set to go, but there is one last very important thing to sort out - where to stay. “I have been on the internet trying to find some accommodation and not surprisingly it is not easy. Hopefully something will work out. It is all so expensive as you can imagine.”

Angela will be based at the Excel Arena where the boxing will be held. “I was talking with Barry McGuigan at the Irish Open and he said ‘I’ll see you there’ as he is also going to be there working at the boxing.”
