Alison is ‘King’ of course after a great start

As usual the normal golfing week at Lurgan began with the ladies on Tuesday.

On the day Alison King won the ladies first prize with a net 67. Alison got off to a lovely start with a par at the first followed by a two at the long par three second. This along with pars at the sixth, eighth and seventeenth formed the basis of a very tidy card. Maybe the thought of the school holidays ahead is encouraging Alison but whatever it is, it’s great to see her back on her game. Zoe Allen had a welcome return this week to win the gross with a 79. Watched by playing partners Margaret O’Neill and Elaine Bell, Zoe played some superb golf for the first 12 holes which she toured in just three over. It’s great to see Zoe back playing again and we’re sure there are more good scores to follow. Section 1 went to Lynne Hanna with a net 70, just beating Christine Hagan on the better back nine. Lynne is on a great run at the minute.

There must be fierce competition in Lynne’s three-ball as Section 2 went to Lynne’s playing partner Orla O’Dowd with a net 72. Orla too is on a great run and her handicap is sure to tumble. No stranger to the winners circle is Anette Kilbinger who won section 3 with a net 72. Anette’s outward nine left her with a lot of work to do but she was up to the task and played under her handicap on the way home to rescue her score. Anette too is partnered with golf professional Martin Drain; so she must also be benefiting from a bit of extra coaching.

The format of this competition is that the top two net scores and the top two gross scores go into a draw to play off in matchplay, to decide who lifts the Carroll Cup.

So members must watch the notice board to see how it goes.
