Alliss in Wonderland

As preparations continue for the Irish Open at Royal Portrush later this month, legendary golf commentator and TV presenter Peter Alliss spent four days in Northern Ireland recently, visiting some of our world-class golf ‘hotspots’.

Invited here by Tourism Ireland, Alliss recorded footage at some of our iconic golf courses and facilities – including Royal Portrush, Royal County Down and Darren Clarke’s Golf Academy at Greenmount, Co Antrim. The independent production, fronted by Alliss, will be distributed to television networks in two of our key golf markets, GB and the US, in the run-up to and during the Irish Open, as part of Tourism Ireland’s extensive promotions around the world to highlight our world-class golf.

The organisation is working to capitalise on the huge international interest in Northern Ireland golf following the recent global success of our golfers including Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell.

David Boyce, Tourism Ireland’s head of business and sports tourism, said: “We are delighted to welcome golfing ‘legend’ Peter Alliss to Northern Ireland to front our golf TV production. Popularly dubbed the ‘Voice of Golf’, Peter is full of praise for our wonderful courses and the golf product we have in Northern Ireland. His enthusiasm is so evident in the interviews and commentary and we are confident the footage will encourage golfers from Great Britain and the US to come to Northern Ireland and sample our golf for themselves.”

Tourism Ireland’s programme of promotional activity in the run-up to the Irish Open will be seen by millions of golf fans around the world; it includes TV ads on the popular Golf Channel in the US; ads and features in leading international golf publications, GB newspapers, and on key golf websites; and a presence at key golf tournaments.
