Armstrong tops field in Moore Trophy

George Armstrong carded 37 points to claim the Moore Brothers Trophy at Carrickfergus Golf Club on Saturday.

Low handicap winners were Campbell Foster (36 points), Adrian Baird (36 points), Rickie Pedlow (35 points) and Stephen McLaughlin (35 points).

High handicap winners were Geoff Wallace (36 points), Michael McGivern 35 points), R. Campbell (35 points) and D. Duff (34 points).

Bill McAtamney won the Gross Prize with 31 points, while J. McCully topped the Super Seniors with 34 points.

Sunday’s Dambusters Captain’s Day drew a crowd of over 90 members and guests, with captain Jai Johnston providing a host of prizes. The overall winner was Gavin Baker with 40 points.

There was disappointment for Carrickfergus GC’s Ulster Cup team against the holders, Newtownstewart.

Following a 4-3 reverse in the away fixture, the match was tied with Carrick winning 4-3. However, the local side lost out by one hole in the countback.

In midweek, Kelly Campbell won the Dorothy Williams Memorial Competition (Ladies’ Section) with 37 points.

Helen Pedlow was second with 34 points, Joyce Logan third with 33 points. Other scores: Joan Reid (Whitehead, 31 points); Vicky Green (30 points); J. Simpson (Ballyclare, 30 points); Adrienne Baker (30 points). Anja McIlwrath won the Gross Prize.

Tommy Lyttle was the overall winner of the Open Seniors Stableford with an excellent 39 points.

In the 50 to 64 years section, the winner was Stuart Leighton (34 points).

Jim Livingstone (38 points) won the 65-plus section.
