Athletes Colin and Vernon continue progress at Coleraine event

Fit N Running had a fine evening at the Coleraine 5 mile road race last Wednesday evening.

The event saw Mark McKinstry finish 3rd and rampant duo Colin Apperley and Vernon Shiels record new bests for the distance.

There was an entry of over 300 athletes for the popular event hosted by Springwell Running Club.

McKinstry was prominent from the start, though it was classy duo Freddy Situck of Raheney and Scott Rankin of Foyle Valley who broke away and claimed first and second.

McKinstry claimed a pleasing third place finish in 26mins 16secs.

Vernon Shiels continues to improve with another personal best finishing in 29mins 47secs in 19th place.

Colin Apperley recorded his second best for the distance in a 12 day period with a time of 30mins 8 secs in 24th place.

The previous week, the same Fit N Running triop once again excelled, this time in the Ballymoney 5 mile road race.

Colin Apperley and Vernon Shiels continued their rapid run of development.

Colin, who is on a relentless run of form set another massive personal best, finishing in a time of 30mins 14secs with Vernon 12 secs ahead in 30mins 2 secs

Meanwhile Mark McKinstry travelled to Carlingford on Friday evening for the 5k road race and claimed 8th place in a time of 15mins 49secs.

Fit N Running weekly sessions and times are as follows:

Monday 615pm Recreational Run.

Tuesday 615pm Advanced Run.

Wednesday 615pm Conditioning Circuit.

There is also an adfitional session on Saturday morning for the advanced group.

All these sessions are from the Michelin Athletic Club on the Woodside Road in Ballymena.
