Aubrey makes his case at Bushfoot

None of the early leaders in Bushfoot GC’s John Freeman Memorial Trophy featured this week as Aubrey Sweeney and Nigel Peacock both hit 43 points.

Aubrey wins out on countback and this was well merited as he failed to score at the second hole. The nineteen handicapper dropped just three shots apart from the blank and that effort gave him 21 points. His back nine was a point better than that with 22 being carded, no blanks this time round!

Nigel reversed the nines with 22 scored first. A couple of double bogies late in the front nine and another two coming back did the damage. A ray of light came with a nice birdie three at fifteen but Nigel was a point short of victory.

That was in Division Two, in Division One Terence McFaull scored 39 points to top that section. The second hole gave Terence nothing and that restricted his points tally to 16 at the halfway point. The back nine was a different story with three bogies tempered with a pair of birdie twos which amounted to 23 points for the eleven handicapper. Andrew McKeeman came closest to Terence with his score of 38 points from his mark of thirteen. Double bogey sixes at the first and the tenth let Andrew down, even his two birdies, a two at eleven and a three at thirteen, couldn’t save the day. He needed to be two points better to overtake Terence with his good back nine score.
