Ballycastle Golf Club hold Causeway Artscare Charity competition

Trevor Thompson was the top scorer at Ballycastle Golf Club on Saturday, winning the Causeway Artscare Charity competition with a fine total of 41 points.

Trevor, playing off thirteen, had a superb one over par back nine which yielded 23 points and this proved crucial as Sean Dowds, playing off seven, also accumulated 41 points but had to settle for second place as his level par back nine gave him 21 points.

There were a plethora of 40 point scores returned on Saturday so the count back system was once again called into action. Six handicapper Ciaran Mort picked up the third prize thanks to a level par back nine with Martin Morgan, playing off fourteen, collecting the fourth and final prize on offer, just ahead of Liam McLaughlin, Brendan Black, Mervyn Arbuthnot and Gerard Dowds.

Sunday’s Scramble competition produced the usual barrage of birdies with the mighty quartet of Danny Taggart, Lawrence McQuillan, Vincent Dowds and Sean Casey making nine of them on their way to victory with a score of 54.875 nett.

The three ball of Paul Surgenor, Declan McCarry and Shaun McCook made eight birdies between them for a 56.66 nett score to finish second, just fractionally ahead of the low handicap team of Francis McGinn, Rory Gallagher, Michael Dallat and Patrick Dallat who had an eagle and eleven birdies to give them a total of 56.75 nett.

The final weekend of handicap qualifying competitions takes place at the club next week, with stablefords organised for both Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September.
