Balmoral putlocals out ofMixed Foursome

Banbridge are out of the GUI Mixed Foursomes, narrowly beaten last Monday by Balmoral at Lisburn Golf Club.

The team captains, Gerry and Denise McBrien, had selected a very strong Banbridge team.

Harry Shannon and Mildred Hodgett won the top game by 1 up. John McDowell and Mary Dooher were 2 up at the turn but lost their way over the second nine holes. They lost, albeit narrowly.

Seamus Rooney and Anne Marie Canavan fought tooth and nail but lost on the final green, one down. Fionulla Crossey and Martin McAleenan also had a very tight game but they also lost, this time by 2 and 1.

Balmoral had the three games they needed for victory so the final game was called in. Mary Longmore and William Malcolmson were 1 up after 16 holes and looked all set to win.

These matches are always very close and this one was no different. The Banbridge team just didn’t get the few lucky breaks they needed.
