Banbridge reach the Fred Daly Plate semi-finals

THE Banbridge Fred Daly team have reached the grand finale of the Plate competition.

In the quarter-final, they beat Omagh in a very exciting match.

The first leg was played at Banbridge last Monday.

Luke Woods won 5 and 4.

Josh Lockhart won 2 up.

Michael Young lost 2 and 1.

Mark McCoy won 3 and 2.

Jonathan Brush won 2 up.

Scott Nelson won 8 and 7.

Patrick Magennis won 2 up.

This was a brilliant team performance and Banbridge led 6-1.

The second leg was played at Omagh last Wednesday. Banbridge only needed one and a half points to progress but that was easier said than done.

Luke Woods lost 5 and 4.

Michael Young lost 6 and 5.

Scott Nelson lost 2 down.

Three of the top players were beaten and things were looking a little tense.

Josh Lockhart got a half match against Neil Mallon.

One point was needed from the three remaining games.

Chris McAvoy sealed the victory when he won 5 and 4.

Jonathan Brush (3 and 2) and Patrick Magennis (2 up) also won and that made the final score Banbridge 9.5 Omagh 4.5.

The semi-final and final of the Fred Daly Plate will be played at Knock Golf Club on Sunday 23rd September. Banbridge will play against Balmoral in the semi-final.

This will be a gala occasion and let’s hope that Banbridge can bring home the silverware.
