Banbridge take a good lead to Point in first round of the Fred Daly Plate

Banbridge juveniles played Warrenpoint in the first leg of their first round match in the Fred Daly Plate last Sunday.

Team manager, Nigel Bryson, was hoping for a good win at home against our old rivals from the Point.

The games were tight but Banbridge came out on top overall.

Scott Nelson (6) halved with Michael McGurk (3).

Callum Barnes (5) beat Anthony McAteer (6) 5 and 4.

Josh Crory (6) beat Michael Reavey (6) 2 up.

Jamie Thompson (6) beat Ruari McCormack (13) 6 and 5.

Luke Crory (7) beat Ethan Patterson (14) 5 and 4.

Rory McMullan (8) beat Vincent Toner (15) 2 up.

Gary McConville (12) lost to Shea O’Brien (19) 3 and 2.

Banbridge won the first

leg 5.5 to 1.5 and that is a good lead to take to Warrenpoint next Sunday.

But it is far from decisive so every player must be on his game for the second leg.

For the juveniles the Small Cup is the big one to win

Juvenile’s Day is scheduled for Sunday 6 September.

The highlight of that day will be the final of the Small Cup, the Juvenile Matchplay Championship.

A lot of games have already been played.
